Asbestos Related Diseases

Asbestos related diseases are caused by the inhalation of airborne asbestos fibres which accumulate in the lungs over a prolonged period of time. This can cause various illnesses such as:

  • Pleural plaques - inhaled asbestos fibres can embed themselves in the lungs’ outer tissue (the pleura). This can cause minor blemishes visible on scans or X-rays but the condition is not harmful to health.
  • Asbestosis - the slow and progressive scarring or fibrosis of the lung tissue over a prolonged period of time. This can result in increased levels of disability and even death.
  • Lung cancer - this can be preceded by asbestosis and is a malignant tumour on the lung.
  • Mesothelioma - a rare type of cancer caused by asbestos on the pleura.

Due to the time it can take for symptoms of asbestos related diseases to appear – sometimes up to 50 years - there are special circumstances in which claims can be progressed outside of the usual three year deadline for personal injury claims. Due to the time that can elapse between contracting an asbestos related disease and displaying the symptoms, the claims process can be complex due to the potential history of the case that must be uncovered, contacting previous employer’s and witnesses and so on. We have extensive experience in handling such claims and will ensure that your claim is handled as efficiently as possible while taking every step to ease your suffering in the meantime, including early interim payments and private rehabilitation where possible.

We run our Industrial Disease claims on a No Win No Fee basis so you can be sure to receive 100% of your compensation and not pay a penny towards the legal costs.
